Connecting Tableau to SQream DB

This article details how to create a new connection with Tableau to SQream DB.

This article shows Tableau 9.2, but other versions should be similar.

  1. You should already have a DSN relevant to your current database on SQream. If you do not, please set it up now. See the Configuring the ODBC driver / Adding more DSNs KB article.
  2. You will need to add a Tableau Datasource Configuration file (.tdc) to your repository. It is usually located in
    C:\Users\<User name>\Documents\My Tableau Repository\Datasources.
Verify this by using selecting Start -> Run (or  Win + R from your keyboard) and typing
    %HOMEPATH%\Documents\My Tableau Repository\Datasources.

  3. Place the odbc-sqream.tdc attached to this article in the Datasources directory. This file is mandatory to ensures good compatibility with SQream DB.

  4. Place the concurrent configuration XML  attached to this article in the Tableau installation directory, typically found at
    C:\Program Files\Tableau\Tableau <Version>.
This file tells Tableau it can connect to SQream with more than once TCP connection concurrently.
  5. Open Tableau

  6. Click Other Database (ODBC). If it does not appear, you may have to click More Servers... first, as it appears in this image:

  7. Select the DSN you created earlier and click Connect. In this case, we're showing sqream64.

  8. Verify the details are correct and click OK

  9. You should see your tables from the database. You can now start creating your dashboards.
