Connecting to Shell With PuTTY on Windows

This document explain how to connect to the SSH service using PuTTY on Windows.

  1. Download and install PuTTY. If you can't install files on your system, be sure to download the portable version.
  2. Upon opening PuTTY, enter the following details:
    • Host Name (IP address) as described in the getting started document you received
    • Port (usually 22)putty
  3. Optional - You can enter a name in the Saved Sessions section and click Save
    This will save the connection host and port for future sessions
  4. Click Open to open a new connection
  5. Enter user name and password when prompted
  6. A shell prompt should appear
